We can take climate change seriously without taking ourselves seriously.
Publication day for WHAT IF WE GET IT RIGHT?...!
Given that one of the things I’m known for is advocating for finding joy in climate action, I thought I should walk the talk as I (TODAY!) launch my new book: What If We Get It Right?: Visions of Climate Futures.
Here’s my platform:
We can take climate change seriously without taking ourselves seriously.
We need to bring climate action to the heart of culture.
So, book launch — let’s get goofy with it!
On Sept 17th, publication day, I’ll be hosting a goofy Climate Variety Show with Jason Sudeikis @ Brooklyn Museum at 7pm. (Livestream here! 📺) I take the “variety” in variety show seriously – magic, music, hula hoops, comedy, dance off, and of course many shoutouts to climate solutions.
I spilled the beans to Rolling Stone about the plans for the variety show, aka climate party. (Beware: spoilers!) It will feature comedians Roy Wood Jr. and Wyatt Cenac, magician Nicole Cardoza, “thirsty science” artist Perrin Ireland, musicians the Oshima Brothers, poet Jacqueline Woodson, and a heap of phenomenal climate experts who are featured in the book.
A BIG book tour
Then I’ll be going on a 6 week, 20 city tour across the U.S., including variety shows in LA and Portland, Maine. I’d love to see a bunch of you along the way. The tour was designed to travel to the contributors to the book, so I could be in conversation with them — and you.
New podcast incoming...
And since I’ve been hearing from so many How to Save a Planet podcast fans that you’re ready for more... wish granted! I will be launching a What If We Get It Right? podcast here in Substack, starting with some of the conversations on my tour. Y’all, I am so stoked to share this with you. (More on that next week!)
Vote Climate!
Most importantly, Environmental Voter Project and Lead Locally are coming on tour with me, so we can turn it into a GOTV effort for enviros. If you haven’t yet found your role in out election, I invite you to join me in volunteering with and supporting them.
It’s gonna be a wild ride. Thanks for rolling with me.
Oh! And please order the book if you haven’t yet, and leave a review on Amazon and Goodreads. As you probably know, first week sales and buzz are hugely important to the success of a book, and the ripples it can make. xo –A
p.s. Fewer exclamation points in my next post, I promise. I’ve just got that publication day excitement! ✨
Pre-ordered the book months ago and picked up my copy yesterday! I can't wait to read it.
Congratulations on book launch. I am reading as we speak and am right there with you regarding this is about culture change. My focus is on dismantling patriarchy through how we negotiate and resolve conflict.
