Today’s conversation is a special one. I’m joined by someone who’s been a collaborator and a dear friend in this work: Dr. Katharine K. Wilkinson.
You may know Katharine as lead writer on the book Drawdown, or as my co-editor on All We Can Save, or as leader of The All We Can Save Project (which we co-founded back in 2020), or as co-host of the podcast A Matter of Degreees, or as writer of the new Substack newsletter Human on Earth!
And tomorrow, May 5th, is publication day for Katharine’s new book that’s a culmination of the last 5 years of her work — or perhaps of her lifetime! It’s called Climate Wayfinding: Healing Ourselves and the Planet We Call Home.
It’s such an important book because the vast majority of people are concerned about climate change, but a much smaller portion of people are engaged in pushing forward solutions. And so much of whether and how each of us step up and lean in is about our feelings. How do we move from anxiety and dread into something more like, as she puts it, a shimmering purpose?

Talking about and processing climate feelings is not really my jam, especially not publicly or collectively. As you know, I’m more of a “fuck hope, what’s the strategy?” kind of girl. I’m the one who offers you the simple Climate Action Venn Diagram to suss out where you might fit in to the work the needs doing.
But a lot of people need more guidance than that, want support and companionship in the deep internal searching and grappling of finding their roles in climate solutions. So I’m excited and thankful for this offering from Katherine, which has already helped many people get unstuck and find their ways.
Without further ado, on publication eve, here’s my conversation with Katharine. 💛
And if you have questions about your role in climate solutions — how to move from, as the back cover says “ache to action, from doubt to possibility” — Climate Wayfinding will help you navigate toward answers. Let’s be honest, we all have these questions! So, head on over to your local independent bookstore and pick up Katherine’s book in all its periwinkle glory, or request it from your local library.

Alright, earthlings. You know the motto: Take climate change seriously, but let’s not take ourselves too seriously.
