Thanks for raising up the fun of Sun Day, Sept 21. In Portland, there’s a fair from 11am to 2pm at Lincoln Park (Congress St, in front of the Courthouse), with music, parade, art projects, info booths, and more. β€οΈβ˜€οΈ

Glad your podcast is back! So smart and inspiring! I didn't have to be convinced that solar power is good, but I especially appreciated the talk about permitting at the end. I am completely convinced that solar is the way to go, and yet I can never convince myself that solar panels make economic sense on my own roof, partly because I live in a small and energy-efficient house and work to keep my electricity needs low. It's the cost of the permits that makes the economics not work. I know some states have better incentives, and I think we need to work harder to make solar more affordable to more of us. Of course we need to restore the federal tax incentives, but state-level work is where we still maybe have some power. In the meantime, let's also promote passive solar, which lowers the need for fossil fuels.

This is my first episode released since I finished your book! Thank you so much for all the work you do; I’m so excited for season three!

I’m working in my college’s sustainability office to host our own Sun Day- thank you Bill for starting such a de-light-ful celebration! :D

So excited the pod is back!!! By far one of my favorites, and even the "commercial" breaks inspire - "there are no commercials" makes my heart sing lol.

Hats of to Bill for organizing 100,000 people under Third Act! I plan to be at Sun Day in Chicago, tabling with Citizens' Climate talking about national permitting reform (which is also needed on top of the great local permitting reform Bill talked about). Read more below:

The point that Bill made about the economic uncertainty of being hamstrung by America's quixotic vision of energy dominance indefinitely versus being able to make a one-time payment to China for a more sustainable (in more ways than one!) energy future was quietly revelatory, yet so clear. Since economics, for better or for worse, drive so many climate transition decisions, it seems foolhardy for America to commit to an energy future that makes absolutely no sense on so many levels. Thank you, Ayana and Bill for all your great work!

I am so thankful for your podcast and love the recent episode and I loved the one last season on electricity grids in the city and using solar panels and subdividing apartment electricity usage!

Thanks for your persistence and graceful spirit in the face of all the ways this administration has so viciously destroyed years of progress on climate change. It makes our work on a local and state level so critical.

Utah is the only state that permits one to order a plug-in solar balcony panel, plug it in and lower your electricity bill. My goal is to put one of those on my back porch here in Maine sometime soon and work with NRCM and others to get that permitting process working. I know you are supporting Hanna Pingree for Governor here in Maine. I hope she has this permitting on the top of her priority list so she can help me walk into Walmart and come out with a solar panel I load into the back of my car one day!!

Longtime reader/listener, first time Substacker - what was most impactful for me was the statistic that a truckload of minerals mined for solar panels has 500x the energy potential of a same sized truckload of coal. We need more apples to apples comparisons to refute bad propoganda. Thank you for your work!

Hi there - it's good to know your book made it to the NYT bestseller list. On September 21, I will be at a wedding - a coworker from Ethiopia and her beau from Oakland. It's important to emphasize the impacts on climate of the projects being done, and putting them in a spreadsheet against the harms being done. We need the GHG accounting.

Keep up the amazing work, Ayana! I am one of the rocking chair rebels inspired by Bill’s work. I joined Third Act a few years back and have made significant changes in the way I approach my climate work. Bill has inspired me for years, but Third Act has given me a wider network and targeted actions. On the fun and inspiring side, I was at the Old North Church in Boston when Mayor Wu lit the green lantern in anticipation of Sun Day. It was a rainy night, and, honestly, I was brought to tears when my husband and I walked the neighborhood and came upon the Zakim Bridge, in the distance, wearing green. I plan to attend the event at the Steel Yard in Providence on Sun Day, new knee permitting. Gotta’ keep on my feet:)

I read your book, and have been so inspired by your work. I am 68; 69 next month, I have felt quite desperate at times because I truly love this beautiful world. Your work really helped me to focus on what’s being developed. I know the things I do in the present matter, but I needed to see the future. Your book gave me that vision, and you and your interviewees made me smile. I felt a sense of hope which is something we all need. I am not just here for myself; I am also here to be the ancestor who leaves this place better than when she arrived. Thank you for your beautiful spirit and inspiration. And, thank you for bringing Bill to your table. He, in my opinion, has been the steadfast voice of reason. I so admire his determination and love for the world. After all, this is it, isn’t it. This is our home.

I would also encourage you to check out Zen and the Art of Saving the Planet, offered through Plum Village. The course was incredibly helpful and, again, perspective changing. I think they are offering it again this fall. It was wonderful. People from all over the world attend. We need that world perspective right now when so is unraveling in the states. You are an amazing young woman, and we are so lucky to have you. You’re not speaking into the void; you’re speaking to me, to all of us. Well done!
