We already have the climate solutions we need. We just need to f*cking implement them.
That's my "Subway Takes" hot take. Someone had to say it.
Happy Earth Day, Earthlings. 🌎✨
Gosh, how I love this magnificent planet. In the words of NASA astronaut Victor Glover, “You have this oasis... this beautiful place that we get to exist together.”
Goodness, how I want to do my part to protect our oasis — for us humans and the millions of delightful and wacky species we share it with. You too? Excellent. And YOWZA do we have work to do.
One thing you can do today: Help safeguard the Endangered Species Act. See Perrin Ireland’s newsletter here for details.
My “Subway Takes” Take 🚇
On “Subway Takes,” a rollicking Instagram/YouTube show hosted by Kareem Rahma, I said that “implementation” is the sexiest word in the English language 🥵 — a hill I will die on.
Or, if you prefer the more staid MSNBC Morning Joe version, here’s how I put it over on cable TV. There’s definitely more to say about this (ahem, capitalism + politics + justice), and more innovation will be useful (airplanes, concrete, etc.), but yeah.
What is your hot climate take??? Dying to know. Tell me in the comments, pretty please.
What I’m reading 🤓
Some things I’ve read lately and can’t stop thinking about. Perhaps I’ll start sharing articles more regularly — send me your faves. This set is all about climate communication:
Why MAGA suddenly loves solar power — Washington Post
How the Trump administration’s climate math doesn’t add up — Grist
How Lee Zeldin Shifted the Mission — and the Message — of the E.P.A. — The New York Times
How Landman undermines Texas’s sustainable future — American Story (Carri Twigg’s Substack)
This everyday job can activate climate behaviour [spoiler: it’s hairdressers!] — Talking Climate (Katharine Hayhoe’s Substack)
Climate Dance Parties 🕺🏽
3 down! Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and American Museum of Natural History — you were AMAZING. We came, we danced, we celebrated climate solutions.
3 to go! San Diego, Los Angeles, and Freeport, Maine, see you soon on the dance floor. A few tickets left, here:

Oh, and pick up a copy of the What If We Get It Right? paperback, hot off the presses — wherever books are sold.

I think nations and governments like the United States, France, England, etc, that contribute the most to the climate emergency and pollution, owe smaller island nations reparations and efforts to restore their biodiversity and coasts + improved hurricane preparedness, since a lot of those nations also suffered under their imperialism/slavery anyway. And yes, Hawai'i counts!!
Hey, Ayana! Your "Subway Take" invitation called to mind my bumper sticker version of our task from Cows Save the Planet: "Oxidize Less, Photosynthesize More" (Not terribly catchy--except for us science nerds!)
