I've been reading this book and find it very interesting -- infuriating, in fact. However, on page 50 you state that Angela Hickey's family had lived in the area for years, including farming "an old Civil War battlefield." This seems quite strange to me, as the Civil War armies never got closer to Hoosick Falls than Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. There was an incursion from Canada by some two dozen southern soldiers (escapees from Union POW camps) who robbed a few banks in St. Albans, Vermont, but there were no federal troops in the area. A Vermont infantry officer on home leave organized some local citizens who chased the raiders back to Canada, but that was more in the nature of a police action than anything that could be called a "battle." Would you care to clarify?
This was a brilliant conversation and yet again highlights how much these organizations hide from the public and how much they are prepared to put people (especially black and brown people) at risk with zero thought!
Then DuPont sold their Neoprene manufacturing to Denka who have been massively spotlighted by some campaigners in the surfing world through film “the Big Sea” around “Cancer Alley”. The greenwashing in these worlds is astounding.
Thank you for posting this. I will definitely read it. Relievedthat the EPA (in Jan. 2025) finally stopped it's practice of applying PFAS contaminated waste-water sledge on America's agricultural crops. When will the EPA implement procedures to remove these forever chemicals from America's water supply?
